Once you remove the safety seal on the jar, set the jar on a flat, non-slippery surface. Place the One Touch™ Jar Opener on top of the jar and press the large black button to start the opener. The inner set of clamps closes over the lid while an outer set clamps onto the jar itself. The outer set of clamps stops there to hold the jar in place while the inner set twists the lid free. The clamps then return to their original position and stop automatically.

This is an almost hands-free operation. You should only need to hold the jar when it is very small or very tall. If the jar is too tough to open (like a previously opened jam jar that has a sticky rim), you can press the start button during the operation to release the Jar Opener to its original position.
