General Info

If you need full clearance in a doorway, you need a Swing Clear Hinge.

No more scraping of knuckles as you use a mobility device to get through a doorway. Get full use of all the space available in your doorway gaining access to the 2" that the door actually blocks. As you open the door, the Swing Clear Hinge moves the door away from the jamb and gives you complete access to the whole doorway.

These Z-shaped hinges replace existing 4" hinges that have 4 holes. A swap of the hinges will add 2" of clearance to the doorway. That means better clearance for people who use walkers or other mobility aids.

Does your door currently have a different hinge? Stanley also makes 3.5" Hinges with 3 holes. Let us know if you have other specialty hinge needs.

Special Notes

  • Some door preparation is typically required for residential use.

  • Reversible flush tips and pins for left or right swinging door.

  • Standard weight, plain bearing.

  • These are "5 Knuckle" hinges, meaning that there are 2 fixed pieces around the pin on one side of the hinge and 3 on the other.
Installation Instructions

  1. Remove all existing hinges from the door jamb and the door.

  2. Open the offset hinge. The part with the product stamp goes on the door with the stamp facing out (countersunk holes facing you, the pin to the outside of the door). If you need to reverse the hinge for your application, follow the enclosed instructions for changing the pin. Screw into the existing holes. Repeat with all additional hinges.

  3. Attach the other side of the hinge to the door jamb (countersunk holes facing you). Screw into existing holes.

  • If there was an existing hinge on the door, the screws should fit into the same location. Because the corners are square, the door where the old hinge was may need to be modified slightly to create a good fit.

  • For use on full mortise, square edge doors.
Care/Washing Instructions

  • As a general rule, hinges should be lubricated every six months. Use Shell Darina #2 or equivalent heavy bearing grease. Extract pins and wipe with or dip in grease. Reinsert pin. Grease will work into load bearing surfaces. Wipe excess grease and dirt from hinge.

  • High use of door openings or exterior applications may demand more frequent servicing.
